Share-Net International
Established in 2001, Share-Net International (SNI), is the knowledge platform on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). SNI is a membership network of non-governmental organisations, researchers, policy makers, implementers, advocates, students, media outlets and companies operating in the SRHR field, working closely with a wide range of partners across the globe. We foster a continued dialogue between our members, where we analyse and synthesise state of the art knowledge aiming at evidence informed policies and practices. SNI addresses both sensitive and neglected topics and offers safe spaces to discuss these.
Share-Net International combines the expertise and strengths of Dutch organisations, Southern partners and key international actors working in the area of SRHR to achieve the SRHR and HIV related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Knowledge and its application in policy and practice are crucial for improving programme effectiveness, understanding and engineering lasting change and in reaching the SDGs. Share-Net International’s Knowledge Management strategies facilitate that the right SRHR knowledge becomes available to the right people at the right time.
In addition, the Platform encompasses national knowledge networks in four countries: Bangladesh, Burundi, Jordan and the Netherlands. These networks serve as conduits for situation assessments, defining research priorities, facilitating research participation by country institutions and hosting the local knowledge hub/platform. They also stimulate the participation of key international partners and regional and national actors in SRHR, based in their countries.

All people have the freedom of choice, are able to make informed decisions, can take action on their sexual and reproductive health and have access to quality care to meet their SRHR.
Our mission
To strengthen linkages between research, policy and practice through sharing, generating, translating and promoting the use of knowledge for the development of better policies and practices in SRHR.
Our objectives
Share-Net International aims to share existing knowledge, generate new knowledge to address prioritised research gaps, and translate knowledge into formats appropriate for intended audiences so as to contribute to the development of better policy and practice.
Our focus
The Platform’s focus is on strengthening the role knowledge can play in developing evidence-based policies and practices and ensuring that resources are used strategically and to maximum effect. We therefore focus our work on three areas:
- Knowledge management: We generate, share, translate and promote knowledge use through our extensive global network. With our stakeholders, we influence policies and practice and advocate for more impactful SRHR programmes.
- Match-making: We create connections between researchers, policy-makers and practitioners in SRHR. We facilitate access to people. We foster dialogue. We open up doors to local, regional and international networks and interlink NGOs, companies, social entrepreneurs, research institutes, universities, students, governments, practitioners and investors.
- Showcasing young researchers: We link student researchers to our members to match needs for research in SRHR. We make it possible for young researchers to disseminate their findings and trumpet their achievements through special events and publications. We also create opportunities for them to support our members and partners to translate knowledge into practical guidelines.
What Share-Net does

Website
The central website (http://www.share-netinternational.org) is the focus for the online community. Registered users of Share-Net International are able to link directly to each other through the online platform of Share-Net International in terms of country, areas of interest and expertise. The online community engages with the themes, posting and discussing relevant research, sharing experiences and advising on messages and improvements for policy and practice.
Newsletters
Quarterly Share-Net International and bi-weekly Share-Net Netherlands newsletters, distributed to over 1300 subscribers, provides updates on progress and highlight latest news, publications and events in the field of SRHR.
Secretariat
The Secretariat coordinates and facilitates the implementation of activities. It is held accountable for the delivery of outputs and meeting requirements for complete and timely reporting.
The Share-Net secretariat is hosted by KIT and consists of:
